The Special Education Project of the Education System Transformation Programme will be hosting the first Ministry of Education-sponsored conference on special education. This conference will provide exposure for the community of special education practitioners and those in the related service areas in the public sector and Non-Governmental Organizations. The challenges for catering to the need of students with exceptionalities are not unique to Jamaica and so the target audience includes stakeholders in Jamaica, the Caribbean region and elsewhere!

The range of issues to be covered will advance regional discussion and create opportunity to establish and strengthen the network of professionals in the field of special education.

Conference Objectives

  • To promote job-embedded professional development for practitioners in the education and related sectors who interface and provide services for children with special needs.
  • To sensitize and equip participants with appropriate responses and strategies to engage in effective efforts to deliver relevant and equitable services for children with special needs.
  • To provide practitioners with information to improve existing skill sets that may be cascaded through in-service training opportunities.
